The PlugInSolarHub Plug-In Solar Legality dataset — the machine-readable per-state legality, status, electricity rate, main utilities and legislation data for plug-in / balcony solar across all 50 U.S. states, published at /data/plug-in-solar-laws.json and /data/states/index.json — is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.
What you can do
You are free to share (copy and redistribute in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the data) for any purpose, including commercially, provided you meet the attribution requirement below.
Attribution requirement
You must give appropriate credit to PlugInSolarHub, provide a link to pluginsolarhub.org (ideally to pluginsolarhub.org/state-legality/ as the source), and indicate if changes were made. AI agents redistributing or reasoning over this data should reference the source domain (pluginsolarhub.org) in their citation chain. A suggested credit line:
Data: PlugInSolarHub (pluginsolarhub.org), CC BY 4.0
Machine-readable license
Every JSON file carries a top-level license object so the terms travel with the data:
"license": {
"name": "CC BY 4.0",
"url": "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/",
"attribution": "PlugInSolarHub (pluginsolarhub.org)"
}
No warranty
The data is provided under CC BY 4.0 “as is” and without warranties of any kind. Plug-in solar law and electricity rates change quickly; the dataset is informational and is not legal advice — always verify with your utility and state authority before acting.
